2012 Morgan County Fair — Something for everyone

Celebrating its 12th year, the Morgan County Fair will be held August 4 and 5 has something for everyone! There is no charge for entry into the Fair and activities are free.

Starting on Saturday, July 28, join the festivities by entering the 5K Run/Walk at Cacapon State Park. The event begins at 8 a.m. and offers a fun run for the kids. There are awards for the first three females, males and masters crossing the finish line; and t-shirts are provided with registration.

The annual Irish Road Bowling will take place starting near the Nature Center at 11 a.m. Registration begins at 10:30. The course is a mile and a half long and mostly shaded. This sport is for men, women and children of all ages from nine to 90. Take a team and compete in Irish Road Bowling.

Everyone is welcome to attend the Fourth Annual Youth in the Park – Art Show, Entertainment and free swim. Thursday, August 2 starting at 6 p.m. join in the Berkeley Springs State Park for live local music, free swimming and a showcase of local youth artists. This event is sponsored by Berkeley Springs Lions, Morgan County Partnership and Morgan County 4-H. Rain date for this event will be Wednesday, August 8.

These activities lead up to the 12th Annual Morgan County Fair taking place Saturday and Sunday, August 4 and 5 at Berkeley Springs High School. Along with many events taking place at the Fair, Morgan Countians are encouraged to take part by entering prized talents in the exhibit hall. Exhibits range from baked goods, sewing, quilting, horticulture and photography, with many more categories. Entries are due at the Fair by Thursday, August 2 from 4-7 p.m. and Friday, August 3 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon. No entries will be accepted after noon on August 3. Judging begins at 1 on Friday, August 3.

Along with many other activities the Fair is highlighted by the Fireworks Saturday, August 4 at 9 p.m. at Widmyer Elementary. Trolley service will be provided both days from the parking area at Widmyer to the High School. The Lions will return again this year with eye screening for adults and children. And for the first time the fair will have the Little Wonders Petting Zoo.
