Tanya’s offers quality pre-owned goods

For everything from clothes to shoes, jewelry to knick-knacks, Tanya’s Gathering Place buys and sells a variety of high-quality clothing and items.

The shop is located at 87 North Washington street between Black Cat Music Shop and the Lion’s Lair.

Tanya Hershey, owner of the store since opening on May 26, is mostly looking for upscale clothing and things that are unique and will catch somebody’s eye.

“I was going to start out consignment, but decided to hold off on that until I’m used to being in business,” said Hershey. “Right now I am purchasing things from people straight out.”

Hershey had always had yard sales of her own and went to thrift shops for many years.

“I love to find a bargain, and I’ve always dreamed of starting my own business,” Hershey said. “One day I decided I was tired of just thinking about it and I’m going to make it happen.”

In the future, Hershey has a room she plans on fixing up to display some vintage items and utilize the additional space.
Right now, she only uses two of the five total rooms in the spacious building. The others are used to hold out-of-season clothing.

“People get really excited when they see the second room, so I hope to open more up,” said Hershey.

She feels that with the prime location, she’ll be able to stay in business year-round. The items she sells are useful for local people just as much as tourists.

“Locals can come and still enjoy the store, and find something without having to run to Hagerstown if they need something quick,” she said.

Hershey currently lives in Warfordsburg, Pa.

Hours of the shop vary, but usually are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. every day of the week. She can be reached at 304-258-1101.
