All-Stars advance to State Tournament
The Morgan County 11-12 year old All-Stars will be representing District 6 in the West Virginia State Tournament with a chance to advance to the South East regionals on the road to the Little League World Series.
Opening the Area 1 tournament with a loss to the Jefferson county All-stars with a 12-5 score and a short game due to rain the Morgan County team came back with wins over Hedgesville, Charles Town, Ranson, as well as Martinsburg to advance to the next level in district play.
In the District 6 finals Morgan County defeated Hampshire County which gave them the opportunity to avenge their opening loss with a win over Jefferson County to seal a bid to the state tournament.
Defense and fundamentals have been the highlight of Morgan County's success. The bats of Alan Jenkins, Andrew Butts and Michael Hovermale have stood out and have supplied the offensive firepower to lead the team.
Strong pitching performances under pressure from Jenkins, Hovermale, Braden Mellott, Josh Reedy and Tyler Fischer have also contributed to the success of the team.
Morgan County will take on Beckley Friday, July 20 at 7:30 p.m. and then Elkins Saturday, July 21 at 7:30 p.m. in Martinsburg at Oatesdale Park in the State Tournament.
