Town truck & copper pipe stolen from Water Works

A 1995 GMC pickup truck and an undetermined amount of spare copper pipe were stolen over the Memorial Day weekend from the Town of Bath’s storage facility at the Myers Street water tower.

The truck is one of the town’s street crew vehicles.

At presstime, Water Works employees were conducting an inventory at the Myers Street facility to determine the value of the stolen pipe.

“It will take about a week to get it done,” Chief Water Operator Terry Largent said.

Kelley Blue Book lists the trade-in value of the GMC truck at $2,000 to $3,000. Mayor Susan Webster said the truck has over 100,000 miles on it.

The theft is being investigated by West Virginia State Police who believe the thieves gained access because keys were left in the vehicle.
