Vandals hit Paw Paw School

Paw Paw Police Chief Tim Harthun is investigating vandalism at Paw Paw School that took place on Wednesday night, May 30.

The chief received a call about 6:30 a.m. last Thursday reporting broken windows and broken rooftop fixtures at the school. Estimated damages totaled thousands of dollars.

Several individuals were captured on school surveillance cameras. As of Monday, Harthun was reviewing the video, but had not yet made any arrests.

Leads still sought
Harthun is also continuing his investigation of a destruction of property incident that was reported on Tuesday morning, April 24, as a possible hate crime.

A Paw Paw youth’s vehicle was duct-taped and a mannequin’s head with racial slurs written on it was taped to the side mirror.

The victim’s mother later gave police a bag of human wig hair that she said she had found stuffed into the tailpipe.

The family is offering a reward upon conviction of those responsible.

Harthun also took four other vandalism reports on the morning of April 24 about other cars and the back doors of apartments on Randolph Spencer Lane being sprayed with mustard overnight.

Anyone with information about these crimes may contact the Paw Paw Police Department through Paw Paw Town Hall at 304-947-7476.
