Pap’s Dairy Dreams opens at new Fairview Drive site
by Jazz Clark
Joe Coble opened his ice cream shop on Fairview Drive near Berkeley Springs because cones elsewhere were just too small.
‘I could finish a cone at another place in four or five bites,” Coble said. “Why not have a big cone?”
Located next to Country View Apartments and just a mile from the new hospital, Pap’s Dairy Dreams is a family friendly place to get cool treats.
“People are crazy about the banana splits,” Coble said. “They’re so big they can really feed two people, and people usually get two spoons when they order it.”
The ice cream is 10% butter fat soft serve, available in chocolate, vanilla and a twist of both. Other flavors can be added with special syrups to a cone, cup or milkshake. The syrups will change as they find out which flavors are most popular.
Coble is hoping to add sugar-free ice cream to the menu in the future.
Pap’s offers peace, quiet and family atmosphere. “There’s a nice grassy area, the kids will bring a ball and play. It’s a friendly place,” Coble said.
He likes the interaction with people. “I don’t do it because I need a job, I have a job,” Coble said. “I do it to meet all the people who come out here and love ice cream.”
Pap’s will be open noon to 9 p.m. every day during the summer.
