Winning photos show county’s zest
The liveliness and variety of Morgan County life was again apparent in this year’s winning entries in the Morgan County Photo Contest.
The contest, now in its ninth year, is sponsored by The Morgan Messenger. The winning photos are in this week’s paper.
Runners-up from the contest will appear in The Messenger throughout the next year. The winners and other pictures will be used in a 2013 Morgan County calendar that will be printed in the fall.
Donna Pierce’s picture of a barn near Great Cacapon won the Best Building/Scenic Photo prize.
Winning first for Best People Photo was Brady Isaiah Smith’s picture of jumping teenagers in their prom clothes.
John N. Kronyak’s picture of his horse Phaedra won for Best Animal Photo.
Taking first for Best Nature Closeup was “Blowing Bubbles,” Flor Lorenzo’s shot of a frog.
Lorenzo also received the Best Kids Photo award for her picture of a boy reeling in a fish.
The Judges’ Choice Award went to Leslie Devine-Milbourne for her photo of Fiddlin’ John Devine at Wind Hill Farm.
Judges for the contest were photographer Alison Carter, Beth Curtin of the Chamber of Commerce, Laura Smith of Travel Berkeley Springs, and Dave Abner and John Douglas of The Morgan Messenger.
