Kerns gets 20 years

Zachary Branson Kerns, 23, of Bunker Hill pled guilty recently to robbing the Berkeley Springs Sheetz convenience store in August 2011.

Appearing before Judge Andrew Frye, Kerns entered a guilty plea to felony robbery and also to a misdemeanor concealed weapon charge.

Last August, Kerns entered the Sheetz store with a knife and hammer, threatened the clerks and stole cigarettes and beer. Kerns left the store, then returned again with the same weapons and stole more merchandise.

Judge Frye sentenced Kerns to 20 years in prison for the robbery and a year in jail for the weapon charge. Those sentences will run concurrently.
