Auditions for Big Sur

The Morgan Arts Council (MAC) announces auditions at Berkeley Springs High School theater on Friday, March 2 from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, March 3 at 4-6 p.m. for a mid-May play. The Ice House Theater Project is staging "Big Sur," West Virginia playwright, Frank Gagliano's, comedy with a message. Perfor-mance dates are May 11-13 and 17-20. Gary McDaniel directs the production.

"The play is a rollicking comedy that loosens us up to hear the underlying message of how stereotypes make connecting with each other difficult," said McDaniel. "It provides the opportunity for actors to let their comedic skills shine."

The small cast requires six to nine males and two to four females ranging in age from teens to 75. One person, male or female, who can sing and play guitar is also needed. Audition material is available at the Morgan County Public Library and at the theater page. Interested persons need only attend one night of the auditions. Rehearsal schedules are available then.

Although set and staging requirements are simple, help is always needed. "Folks should stop by on an audition day and let us know how you want to be part of the fun," said McDaniel.

"We're planning for the playwright to come to Berkeley Springs to work with the cast early in rehearsals and then to attend one of the performances for a discussion with the audience," McDaniel said.
