Country Inn behind on tax payments

The Country Inn is once again behind on paying the back hotel-motel taxes owed to Town of Bath.

After making the first two payments, totaling $25,000, of a court-ordered $60,500 judgment, the Inn failed to make scheduled payments of $10,000 on December 1 and January 15.

Another payment of $15,500 is due on February 15.

The taxes represent funds that the Inn collected from guests but failed to pass on to the town during the last three years.

According to the Circuit Court order, the Inn’s owners — 5042 Holding Limited and Nancy Sostaric – are personally responsible for paying the back taxes.

Mayor Susan Webster said at the January 17 town council meeting that the town received a check in December, but it was refused by CNB Bank, Inc.

The Inn has not kept up with the current monthly hotel-motel tax payments, either. The last monthly tax payment was received by the town in October, according to Councilman Ken Easton.
