Heavy snow causes area power outages

Some 193 customers lost electricity in Morgan County due to Saturday’s early snow storm.

This included 130 customers in Berkeley Springs, 42 in Great Cacapon, 17 in Paw Paw and four in the Hedgesville area, said Potomac Edison spokesman Todd Meyers.

Statewide, there were 1,123 separate outages, involving 42,000 customers, in the company’s West Virginia service area due to the heavy wet snow.

“The service area includes the Eastern Panhandle, extending down into Grant County,” Meyers said.

In the Hancock area, 194 customers lost power, Meyers said. There were 56,000 outages in 600 separate incidents in Maryland, Meyers said.

Additional crews from Mon-Power and Penn Power were called in over the weekend and were working to restore power, Meyers said.

All customers in Morgan County and Hancock are expected to be back in service by midnight on November 2, if not sooner, he said.
