Lady Indians blank Keyser 3-0
Berkeley Springs High School Girls Soccer Team shutout Keyser 3-0 on Monday, October 10, in Berkeley Springs.
Leah Kidwell scored twice and Sarah Allman once, giving the Tribe more than enough offense for goalkeeper Julia Williams who recorded her first shutout of the year.
"We are playing better and gaining confidence against our sectional opponents," said Indian coach Rocky Riffle.
Berkeley Springs ended the regular season with a 7-0 loss to Hampshire County in Romney on October 13.
"We are kind of beat up a little bit," Riffle said. “I don't think this game is indicative of where we are right now as a team."
The Indians also played St. Maria Goretti last week, losing a close 2-1 decision.
"We have our sights set on the postseason," Riffle said. “We play Petersburg on Monday (October 17), and I think the girls will be up to the challenge."
The Indians are scheduled to play Frankfort, at Frankfort, today, October 19, at 7 p.m. for the sectional title. Berkeley Springs advanced to the championship game with a 3-1 win over Keyser on Monday, October 17. Leah Kidwell, who had two goals, broke a 1-1 tie with 21:34 seconds left in the game and Sarah Allman added an insurance goal in the 24th minute to secure the win.
Details of the entire sectional tournament will be in the next edition of The Morgan Messenger.
