Volleyball team gets two road wins

Erin Close scored 11 points, Brooklyn MuCusker 10 points and Courtney Miller eight, leading the Berkeley Springs High School Volleyball Team to a 3-0 victory over Petersburg, in Petersburg, on Tuesday, September 20.

"I am very happy with how we played tonight," said Berkeley Springs coach Heather Lorigan. “We played as a team, encouraging each other throughout the entire match. Our serving is solid and reliable, and this certainly aids in our success. It's a long haul to play away at Petersburg, but we came home with a win."

Close and Miller added a pair of digs each, while McCukser had 12 assists for the Lady Indians.

Berkeley Springs opened the contest with an easy 25-8 win in game one and then won the next two games by respective scores of 25-21 and 25-15.
The JV lost 25-20 and 25-15.

Second win over Cougars
Berkeley Springs High School Volleyball Team defeated Jefferson 3-0 on Thursday, September 22, in Sheandoah Junction for their second consecutive road win.

"We didn't play our best volleyball tonight, but a win is a win," said Berkeley Springs coach Heather Lorigan.

Berkeley Springs downed the Cougars 25-23 in the first game of the match and then brought home the 3-0 victory, with 25-21 and 25-23 wins in games two and three, respectively.

Casey Solomon had eight points and four kills, Erin Close seven points and three aces, Toni Davison six points and seven digs and Brooklyn McCusker six points and 13 assists, leading Berkeley Springs to their fourth win of the year.

"I am thrilled that we won both matches this week," said Lorigan. “We're now 4-3, and looking forward to adding more to the wins column."

The Berkeley Springs Junior Varsity defeated Jefferson 26-24 and 25-21.
Courtney Smith led the Lady Indians with 15 points and four aces. Kortni Shambaugh added four points.

The Indians will play at Washington on September 29, before hosting St. Maria Goretti at 6 p.m. on October 3.
