Five people hurt in rollover
An early morning accident in the 2800 block of Route 9 east between Ridersville Road and Friendship Road resulted in all five occupants of the vehicle being transported to area hospitals.
The accident was reported to Morgan County 911 Monday morning at 1:58 a.m.
According to Emergency Services Director Dave Michael, three victims were ejected from the vehicle and were transported by helicopter, two to Winchester and one to INOVA in Fairfax, Virginia.
Sheriff Vince Shambaugh said two of the victims ejected from the vehicle were juveniles, a nine year old transported to Fairfax and a 16 year old transported to Winchester.
A landing zone was set up in a field on the south side of Route 9 by EMS responders for the helicopters.
The other two accident victims were trapped and had to be extracted from the vehicle by members of the Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Department.
One victim was transported to War Memorial Hospital in Berkeley Springs and the other to Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Michael said.
“Normally we have an accident report completed the day after the accident, but in this case when there were five victims transported to five different hospitals, it is going to take several days to complete the accident report,” Shambaugh said.
Other units responding to the scene were Sheriff’s deputy Dennis Jenkins, Morgan County EMS, Hancock EMS and Clear Springs EMS.
