Morgan County Administrator Jody McClintock said the geothermal system at the courthouse is mechanically ready to operate but staff needs training on how to use the monitoring equipment.

She said the county is waiting on James Hemme of GAI Consultants to come and conduct a training session.

McClintock said another issue with the geothermal heating and cooling system is that rocks in Warm Springs Run have washed over and covered the system’s input grate.

“We are speculating that the large amounts of rain fall and subsequent water levels of the run caused excess movement of the creek bed,” McClintock said.

Hemme will return in July or August when the creek is low to replace the old grate with a new one with smaller holes to help keep out debris. In order to replace the grate, water in the run has to be temporarily diverted around the grate, she said.
