2011 valedictorians and salutatorians Berkeley Springs High School
Berkeley Springs High School Class of 2011 held their commencement exercises on Sunday, May 29 with around 167 seniors graduating.
Jennifer L. Burdock has been awarded the distinction of Valedictorian of Berkeley Springs High School’s Class of 2011.
She is Student Council President and a member of the National Honor Society.
She recently completed four years of study in the Health Sciences Tech-
nology Academy (HSTA) program and was appointed as a “HOBY” Ambassador.
While attending BSHS, she has lettered in both soccer and in tennis - through which she recently made the All State Tennis team. She was also active in 4-H for many years and is involved in the First United Methodist Church Youth Group and in the community.
Burdock plans to attend Shepherd University in the fall where she will major in biology with the long-term goal of attending pharmacy school at West Virginia University. She is the daughter of Rick and Donna Burdock of Berkeley Springs, and granddaughter of Harry and Ora Thomas of Keyser and the late John and Rosemary Burdock.
Korinne Cowles is the daughter of Daryl and Nikki Cowles. She will be attending Shenandoah University in the fall and will be majoring in Dance.
She is the president of the National Honor Society and the vice-president of Student Council. In grades 9-11 she was the vice-president of her class.
In the summer of 2010 she attended WV Rhododendron Girls State in Wheeling.
She is the recipient of the Principal’s Honors Award throughout high school. In 10th grade she was awarded an outstanding citizenship award.
She is an active member of First United Methodist Church and First United Methodist Church Youth Group.
She is also an 11 year member of the Mighty Iroquois 4-H Club.
She was a student trainer for the BSHS football team in grades 8-12, and assisted the girls’ basketball team as a statistician for her ninth and 10th grade years.
Cowles has been dancing for 10 years. She trains in ballet, pointe, jazz, tap, lyrical, modern, hip hop and musical theater at In-Motion Dance Center in Berkeley Springs. She is also an instructor in ballet, tap, jazz, and hip hop at the In-Motion Dance Center.
