Decision Time
Morgan County voters will decide the fate of countywide zoning on Tuesday, November 2, and will elect a county commissioner, circuit clerk and county clerk.
West Virginia voters will also elect state legislators, a State Supreme Court justice, members of the U.S. House of Representatives and a U.S. Senator to fill the last two years of the late Robert Byrd’s term.
Polling places will be open from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. on November 2.
Early voting has been under way at the County Clerk’s Office for two weeks and will end on Saturday, October 30. The office will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday to accommodate voters.
Candidates on the ballot
Morgan County Commission: Bradley J. Close, Republican; Todd Farris, Democrat.
Morgan County Circuit Clerk: Kimberly J. Jackson, Republican (incumbent); Donna Lechliter, Democrat.
Morgan County Clerk: Debra Kesecker, Republican (incumbent), unopposed.
House of Delegates (51st District, most of Morgan County and a section of Hampshire County): Daryl E. Cowles, Republican (incumbent); Alton (Wolfe) E. Wolfe, Jr., Democrat.
House of Delegates (52nd District, southeast Morgan County and part of Berkeley County): Larry D. Kump, Republican; Mike Roberts, Democrat.
State Senate (15th District, multi-county region): Jeremy Donald Bauserman, Republican; Walt Helmick, Democratic (incumbent).
West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals (statewide): John Yoder, Republican; Thomas E. McHugh, Democratic (incumbent).
U.S. Congress (2nd District, eastern half of West Virginia): Shelley Moore Capito, Republican (incumbent); Virginia Lynch Graf, Democrat; Phil Hudok, Constitution Party.
U.S. Senate (statewide race for two-year unexpired term): John R. Raese, Republican; Joe Manchin III, Democrat; Jeff Becker, Constitution Party; Jesse Johnson, Mountain Party, Vote on zoning
The Morgan County ballot also includes a referendum on a proposed Morgan County Zoning Ordinance. Only residents of unincorporated Morgan County – the area that would be covered by the ordinance – may vote for or against the zoning plan.
