Cell towers planned for western Morgan County

Three new cell towers for the western part of Morgan County are in the planning stage, county Economic Development Authority Executive Director Bill Clark told The Morgan Messenger Thursday, September 30.

Liberty Towers of Rockville, Maryland has taken over the lease of a county tower site near Paw Paw on land owned by Don Largent. Liberty plans to replace the existing tower with a larger tower for cell and Emergency Management Services coverage.

“Surveyors and engineers have been on site trying to get the necessary permits to construct the tower,” Clark said.

Liberty is looking at two other tower sites in the western part of the county; one on Purslane Mountain and another on Sidling Hill. Clark said the process of obtaining permits from the Federal Communications Commission and the Federal Aviation Administration will take some time.

Any tower project in the county also has to come before the Planning Commission to obtain a Commercial and Industrial Improvement Location Permit.
