Victim’s son arrested in Va. line murder

The Frederick County Sheriff’s Department arrested Edward Kline, 33, on Thursday, September 9, charging him with the first-degree murder of his mother at home near Reynolds Store, Va. during last February’s blizzards.

Police have been investigating the murder ever since Margaret Marie Landis, 62, was found stabbed in her home on February 16. She lived just yards from the Morgan County line. Kline, who lived next door to his mother, reported her death to police after a concerned neighbor arranged to have her snow-bound driveway plowed out following the blizzards.

Police said Landis had been stabbed three times by a long, thin weapon and had been dead for close to a week when she was found. Police would not comment on possible motives for the murder or release other details of the crime or investigation.

Kline has been living in Hampshire County in recent months, but was arrested in Frederick County, Va., said Investigator K.C. Bohrer.
Kline is being held without bond in the Northwest Regional Adult Detention Center in Winchester.
