Zakrzewski competes in scholarship program
Katie ZaKrzewski, daughter of Anthony and Janice of Berkeley Springs, was chosen to compete in the Miss Pre-Teen WV Academic Scholarship program on September 1, in Charleston. The program is by invitation only, and 70 girls from all over the state competed in Junior and Senior Divisions in several categories. Academics, Community Service, Personal Achievements and optional Talent and Speech.
Zakrzewski chose the subject "Why the American Family Unit is worth saving" for her speech. She also entered the talent category and performed a dramatic presentation of both Annie Sullivan and Helen Keller. She was awarded second runner up overall, first runner up in talent, third runner up for her speech and was awarded for being the most expressive on stage. She received five trophies, a medal, and an academic bond, and will be in the national competition in Baton Rouge, La. in July. Zakrzewski was sponsored by: friends at Union Chapel United Methodist Church, Simple Gifts & the McDaniel family, friends at Tari's Cafe and Mike Bergen Realty.
Her acting coach was Tom Brooks and Marti Sykes supplied costuming.
