New leadership at Widmyer

Widmyer Elementary will open its doors with some new faces behind the counter this year. Former Assistant Principal Dan Reynolds has risen to the job of Principal. Reynolds' second in command is Dudley Cable, who is new to Morgan County.

Reynolds took the Principal position when Joan Willard left the post to become the county's Assistant Superintendent.

Reynolds came to Morgan County two years ago from Hampshire County, where he was Assistant Principal at Capon Bridge Middle School and a science teacher. Reynolds is a Grant County native.

He received his Master's degree in Leadership Education from East Carolina University. His wife, Kristin, is a Kindergarten teacher in Winchester. Reynolds said he is proud of the technology Widmyer offers to its 430 students in pre-Kindergarten through second grade. He is also pleased by how well teachers have adapted to new teaching technologies.

Cable came to Morgan County this year from Colorado, where he taught fifth and sixth grades for seven years. He received his Master in Curriculum and Instruction at the University of Colorado, Denver.

Prior to becoming an educator, Cable was a chef. He originally hales from Warren County, Pa. and wanted to relocate back to the east coast to be near family. He has two grown children.

Cable said he thinks he brings a unique blend of life experience and the most current educational research to his first administrative job at Widmyer Elementary.

Principal Reynolds wants to welcome his students back to a new school year, and particularly wants parents to know that their children will be greeted every morning by a friendly face. He said they should feel assured that Widmyer is a safe and secure school.

Orientation for Kindergarten parents will be held at the school on Thursday, August 23 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.

Orientation for first and second grade families is scheduled for Friday, August 24 from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
