New designsto be shown
A public meeting to present revised architectural plans for the new Morgan County Courthouse is scheduled for Thursday, August 16 at 7 p.m. at the Berkeley Springs High School cafeteria.
Architect Tom Potts of Silling & Associates will show plans for a less costly two-story courthouse that would connect to Magistrate Court and Family Court building.
The two-story structure would be structurally fortified so a third-story could be added on later, if needed, according to the County Commissioners.
In the revised courthouse design, Magistrate Court and Family Court would remain where they are currently located, said Stotler. The county's administrative offices would be positioned into the courthouse complex layout wherever possible, he said.
Potts' original design for reconstructing the County Courthouse had three stories. In that design, Magistrate Court and Family Court would have been moved to the new courthouse once it was completed. The county offices would have been relocated to the Magistrate and Family Court complex.
The Morgan County Courthouse was destroyed in a fire that occurred one year ago today.
