National Night Out Against Crime

Hancock's eighth annual National Night Out Against Crime will take place in Widmeyer Park on Tuesday, August 7 from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. The rain date for this event is August 9. "National Night Out" began as a yearly event sponsored by local police and safety departments to promote community spirit and provide information on public safety and support services. For the past seven years, the Hancock Police Department, town leaders, churches and local public and private agencies, including the Interfaith Service Coalition, have organized and hosted this event.

This year, "National Night Out" will provide entertainment, free food, and plenty of activities for all ages. The event kicks off at 6 p.m. with a welcome by Hancock Mayor, Dr. Dan Murphy.

There are several games planned for children as well as other demonstrations. Sports events include a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, volleyball and a tug-of-war. The Hancock Town Pool will be open free of charge beginning at 6:30 and the local D.J. Pinnacle will be taking requests and providing music poolside. A full schedule of activities will appear in a future edition of The Hancock News.

There is still room for exhibitors. Anyone wishing to participate in this popular community event should contact Chief T.J. Burskirk at 301-678-5633 or Deborah Cohill, ISC, at 301-678-6605.
