Detour planned for River Road
West Virginia Division of Highways has scheduled a bridge replacement on River Road starting around Thursday, July 19.
The work will require the closure of River Road (County Rt. 1) to through traffic for up to two weeks for the replacement of a small bridge. The location of the closure point is about four miles east of U.S. 522, and about one mile west of the community of Sleepy Creek. This construction site is just immediately on the east side of the intersection with Potomac Road (County Rt.8).
Traffic coming north on the Potomac Road will not be able to turn east toward Sleepy Creek, but may still turn west towards U.S. 522. Some limited detour signing will be erected for those commuters who use River Road as a short cut from U.S. 522 to Rt. 9 around Berkeley Springs.
The road closure could begin as early as July 19, or as soon thereafter as weather and scheduling allow.
Any questions about the project should be directed to the office of the District Bridge Engineer at 304-289-3521, or the Area Construction Engineer at 304-728-7333.
