West Virginia Writers, Inc. has announced that six writers from the Berkeley Springs-Hancock area won awards in the group's 2007 Competition and at its annual writers' conference at Cedar Lakes. All are members of the Martinsburg Library Writers Group.

The winners from Morgan County, Hancock and Berkeley County were:

In the People's Choice Competitions involving live readings of their own prose, Sally Brinkmann of Berkeley Springs won first place and Ami Vermillion and Leigh Horne, both of Morgan County, won third place.

In the Poetry Category, Karen Randlev of Hancock, Md. won second place, while Frank Fuerst of Berkeley County won third place.

Lynn H. Fox of Morgan County won third place in Nonfiction and an honorable mention as Emerging Writer of Poetry.

In the Writers' Wall Competitions, Brinkmann won third place in the Prose category.

Horne won third place in the Emerging Writers Prose Category.

Sarah Tackas of Berkeley Springs won an honorable mention for her short story.

Brinkmann and Joe McCabe of Falling Waters won an honorable mention for their one act play.

Craig Tucker of Martinsburg won third place for his film script.

Victor J. Banis of Martinburg won an honorable mention for his short story.

Sonja James of Martinsburg won an honorable mention in the Short Poetry Category.
