Anthony

Anthony's Jr. in Paw Paw is a new restaurant that offers an assortment of Italian food.

Selections include varieties of pasta, pizza, hot and cold hoagies and subs, calzones, stromboli, appetizers, salads, buffalo wings, and other dishes for dining in or for take-out.

Anthony's Jr. is located at 502 Henry Miller Highway across from the Liberty gas station.

The restaurant opened on Monday, May 7 and had a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday, May 17.

A family business

Owen "O.J." Johnston is the manager of Anthony's Jr. He spent two and a half years training to be a manager under his stepbrother Louis Buono at the Anthony's IV in Winchester. He worked as a part-time manager at Anthony's IV before coming to Paw Paw.

Johnston's stepfather Vincent Buono had a pizza parlor in Trenton, New Jersey and later moved with his family to Winchester. His dad has been in the pizza business for 37 years, said Johnston with pride.

Buono owns the Anthony's IV in Winchester, the Anthony's Jr. in Capon Bridge and the Anthony's Jr. in Paw Paw.

They had looked at other areas for another Anthony's Jr. location, but chose Paw Paw because it fit perfectly for him, Johnston said.

"The most important thing in any business is the location," said Johnston.

Pizza, subs

Anthony's Jr. has 22 different pizza toppings. The pizzas are hand-tossed and dough is made fresh every morning.

They also prepare their own sauces. Johnston makes the fettuccine sauce.

All hoagies and subs are served either on a fresh 12" roll or on a low-carb wrap. They also make gyros.

Entrees include spaghetti, lasagna, ravioli, manicotti, chicken parmigiana, eggplant parmigiana and more.

Pasta dishes and entrees are served with a tossed salad and bread. Other salads are also available.

Anthony's Jr. also has appetizers and desserts.

Specials, favorites

Anthony's Jr. is not just a pizza parlor or a sub joint, but a family restaurant with big portions and daily specials, said Johnston.

People have said their restaurant has the best buffalo wings they've ever had, said Johnston.

The gourmet pizza and the homemade lasagna are his favorite dishes.

Johnston and three other employees work the restaurant, which has a spacious dining area. All are trained to do every job, he said. Everything is made to order and can be ready within 15 minutes.

Johnston takes pride in the cleanliness of the restaurant, the quality of food and the customer being satisfied.

Johnston has a bachelor's degree in biology from Shenandoah University, but said that he would rather work for his family and be involved in the family business.

Delivery coming soon

Future plans include adding delivery by local drivers within a 15-mile radius, which would include Largent, Oldtown and Pin Oak. Johnston may also expand the dessert offerings.
