Adviser chargedin fraud cases
A financial adviser who has done business in Morgan County was arrested on multiple counts of fraud in Hampshire County last week.
Michael Linn Hofe, 49, of Winchester, Va. was charged with 16 felony counts of obtaining money by false pretenses and was taken to the Potomac Highlands Regional Jail on May 20, according to court information.
Hofe ran a financial advisory firm in Berkeley Springs for a number of years. Prosecuting Attorney Debra McLaughlin recently told the Morgan County Commissioners that local authorities have an ongoing criminal investigation into Hofe's conduct in the settlement of the estate of a Morgan County man.
Anyone with questions or concerns about their business dealings with Hofe may contact Sheriff's Investigator Tony Link at 304-258-1067, said McLaughlin.
