County students do well at annual Social Studies Fair
West Virginia Department of Education sponsored its 30th annual social studies fair at the Civic Center in Charleston on May 4. With almost 900 entries the competition was tough. Nine categories of social sciences were represented with individual, pairs and classes competing for the coveted prizes. Students were divided into divisions according to grade: Division I, grades 4-5; Division II, grades 6-8; Division III, grades 9-12.
Morgan County was well represented by 22 projects with 14 coming home with an award.
In Division I, winners were: Individual Anthropology, William Rightnour, Warm Springs Intermediate, won honorable mention; Individual Economics, Haleigh Fields, Warm Springs Intermediate, honorable mention; Individual Political Science, Samantha Veara, Greenwood Elementary, honorable mention; Individual Sociology, Michael Pracht, Paw Paw, first place; Individual State and Local Studies, Lauren McKee, Warm Springs Intermediate, second; Individual World History, Maggie Schultz, Warm Springs Intermediate, won honorable mention.
Others representing Morgan County were Davis Delawder and Levi Bullet from Paw Paw, Samantha Reece from Warm Springs Intermediate and Sarah Haynes and Tiffany Brown from Greenwood.
In Division II, winners were: Pairs Anthropology, Rachelle Myer and Malinda Crumbacker, Warm Springs Middle, honorable mention; Pairs Economics, Laura and Rebecca Leach, Paw Paw, honorable mention; Pairs Political Science, Korrinne Cowles and McKenzie Ambrose, Warm Springs Middle, second place; Individual Psychology, Chelsea Hessler, Warm Springs Middle, first place; Individual Sociology, Jenna Hansroth, Warm Springs Middle, second; Individual U.S. History, Jenny Burdock, Warm Springs Middle, honorable mention; and Pairs U.S. History, Timothy Pracht and Dorothy Gebert, Paw Paw, second place.
Others representing Morgan County were Scotty Hessler, Chelsea Royster and Sami Wingard, Zach White and Loguen McKee, Ginny Moss-Sissler and Sam Michael, all from Warm Springs Middle.
In Division III Morgan County sent only one participant, Brittany Kidwell, from Paw Paw, who earned an honorable mention in Individual Psychology.
