American Legion Auxiliary
The American Legion Auxiliary members of Unit 60, Berkeley Springs met at the Legion Post Home on April 12. Debbie Fox, unit president, introduced the guest speaker, Lauren McKee, a fourth grade student at Warm Springs intermediate school, Berkeley Springs.
McKee presented her project entitled "respecting our flag" which she has entered in the school fair. As she told "when I first started my project I didn't know the impact it would have." Her home room classmates noticed that the school flag was in poor condition and wanted to replace it.
She knew what to do. She contacted Rocky Fox, Sons of the American Legion Squadron 60 commander, if he could help them. The SAL donated the new flag to the school. Her influence also had several other places in town replace their worn out flags. Her project has won first place at her school and in Morgan County. She will be going to Charleston in May for state competition. Debbie Fox presented her with her first membership card as a junior member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Other business included a report by Barbara Spitzer. She took two girls to Morgantown March 23-25 to a special olympics event which consisted of basketball skills. Traci Snidemiller and Amanda Schildt competed in this event and each girl received a silver medal.
The next meeting will be May 10 and all members are welcome.
