Entries invited for Morgan County Photo Contest

The deadline for entries for this year's Morgan County Photo Contest is Wednesday, April 11.

Area photographers, amateur or professional, may submit local scenes. Entries should be representative of the scenery, people, places and symbols of Morgan County, West Virginia.

Color photos are suggested, but black and white scenes will be considered and have won awards in the past. Prints of the pictures must be provided, though no specific size is required. There is no entry fee.

The contest is sponsored by The Morgan Messenger and is now in its fourth year. Winning photos will appear in either a regular issue of the newspaper or in a special summer publication, with credit given to the photographer. Some of the other entries will also be published throughout the rest of the year.

Winning photos and some of the eye-catching runners-up may also be exhibited at the Morgan County Fair this summer.

Last year, awards were given for Best Scenic Photo, Best People Photo, Best Animal Photo, Best Architectural Photo and Best Nature Closeup, plus a special Judge's Choice Award. Categories are subject to change based on the types of entries received.

Winners received a book about the area, a poster of a local scene and a year's subscription to The Morgan Messenger. Similar prizes are expected this year.

Judging will be by staff members of The Morgan Messenger, the Berkeley Springs-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce and Travel Berkeley Springs.

Entries should be marked with the photographer's name and contact information, and with the subject or caption info.

Photos must be received by April 11. They may be dropped off at The Morgan Messenger office, or mailed to: Morgan County Photo Contest, c/o The Morgan Messenger, P. O. Box 567, Berkeley Springs, WV 25411.
