New town police chief reorganizes department
Bath Town Council held a special meeting on Monday, January 8, to approve payment of water project expenses and to review police department issues.
With approval from council, Police Chief Jim Minton promoted Officer Craig Pearrell to corporal effective January 8. As corporal, Pearrell will be responsible for field training of new officers in addition to his normal police duties.
Council also approved new rankings and job descriptions submitted by Chief Minton. Under the new structure, a Patrolman will advance to Patrolman First Class after a year of service and graduation from the police academy.
Patrolman First Class will be eligible for promotion to Corporal after a minimum of two years in that rank. After two years of service, a Corporal will be eligible for promotion to Sergeant.
Additionally, a rank of Lieutenant and Captain were created with the same two years minimum requirement in the lower rank before eligibility for promotion. The Chief of Police position is appointed by Council.
In order to meet payment deadlines, council met the week between its regularly scheduled meetings.
Council approved payments of $142,300 to contractor Cowgirl Up, $12,671 to Thrasher Engineering, $7,896 to the West Virginia Highway Department for permits to work on U.S. 522 and $1,603 interest payment on loan from CNB.
