Truitt named salutatorian

Paul Truitt was chosen to be the Salutatorian of Berkeley Springs High School's Class of 2008, which graduated last Friday, May 23.

Truitt graduated with a 4.11 grade point average. He plans to attend the University of Virginia to major in Chemistry. The college awarded Truitt a number of grants and scholarships that will cover nearly all of his tuition.

In addition to academics, Truitt distinguished himself at Berkeley Springs High School in sports, music and theater. He was a three-time letterman in varsity soccer, a four-time letterman in varsity track and a four-time letterman in varsity band. Truitt was the principle saxophonist in the high school band. He also served as treasurer of the National Honor Society.

The local community has also known Truitt as a talented Shakespearian actor who has appeared in numerous plays at the high school and for the Morgan Arts Council. He has a special love for Shakespeare, he said.

The language just captures me. Truitt said he plans to continue with community theatre throughout his life.

Truitt is the son of Leigh Jenkins of Berkeley Springs and Tom Truitt of Lexington, Va.
