Local student wins science scholarships
Sabrina Barnes and Stephanie Price, students at Berkeley Springs High School, attended the 43rd annual regional Junior Science and Humanities Symposium (JSHS) on April 4-5 at West Virginia Wesleyan College in Buckhannon.
Barnes was awarded a $1,000 scholarship from the national JSHS to use for college tuition at the school of her choice. Barnes also secured a $1,500 scholarship to West Virginia Wesleyan College.
Barnes will attend the national science and humanities symposium in Orlando, Florida from April 30 to May 4.
Berkeley Springs High School science teacher Elizabeth Ramsey was presented the West Virginia JSHS Teacher Award. Ramsey and the school were given $500 to support science programs. Winning teachers are selected based on past and present support for student research.
The Junior Science and Humanities Symposium recognizes students for original research achievements in the sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics. The symposium is sponsored by the United States Army, Navy, and Air Force and the Academy of Applied Science.
