Paw Paw mayor & council seats up in June election
Elections for Paw Paw mayor and town council members will be held on Tuesday, June 4 at Paw Paw Town Hall.
Candidates for mayor and town council can file to run for office from Tuesday, April 2 through Tuesday, April 16 at 5 p.m., said Paw Paw Town Recorder Regina Brack.
The Paw Paw mayor is elected to a four-year term while Paw Paw town council members are elected for a two-year term. All five council seats are up this year.
Paw Paw officials have discussed amending the town’s election ordinance so there is always an experienced person on town council, but no changes have been made to the law, Brack said.
Currently, Alton Wolfe is mayor and the town council members are David Clark, Susi Fletcher, Eldridge Kerns, Joshua Miller and Robert Rowzee.
They’re hoping to arrange early voting by mail again, which was done for the last election. It has to be finalized with the Secretary of State’s Office.
Early voting by mail is a big savings for a small municipality, Brack said. Otherwise, they have to hire two people to sit at Town Hall for more than two weeks to oversee early voting.
Brack’s position as town recorder seat is not up for election this year. Like the mayor, the recorder is elected for a four-year term, but the two office terms are staggered.
