Icy roads on Monday cause some accidents

Icy road conditions on Monday morning caused a handful of accidents to occur on Morgan County roads. One single-vehicle accident involved a Great Cacapon couple that was traveling up Cacapon Mountain toward Berkeley Springs.

Roger Day, age 61, and Beverly Day, age 58, were driving up Route 9 West in their Ford pick-up truck toward the Panorama bends and hit an icy patch, said Chief Deputy Wade Shambaugh. Their vehicle slid around and overturned onto the passenger side into a ditch by the storage company.

The fire department had to extricate them from their truck, Shambaugh said. They were both transported to War Memorial Hospital. No one was seriously injured in the wreck, he said.

Morgan County Sheriff’s Deputy Chris Roper, the Great Cacapon Volunteer Fire Company and Morgan County Emergency Medical Services responded to the accident.

Shambaugh said they had four or five other minor accidents around the county Monday morning due to the icy roads.
