Starting Points is at new location

Morgan County Starting Points opened on January 2 at their new site in the Boys & Girls Club’s former space at the county community building at 187 South Green Street.

An open house is being held this Friday, January 18 from 3 pm to 5 p.m. so the community can stop in to see their new facility.

Community volunteers helped agency staff move from its former 292 North Washington Street location during the week before Christmas. They also helped with building renovations.

Starting Points began serving meals in their newly renovated Mealtime Community Kitchen area on Friday, January 4. That section of their space includes a 23 by 29 foot dining/social area, a newly built kitchen and a 23 by 29 foot food storage pantry in the back.

Tom and Virginia Seely donated money for two new refrigerators and stoves and new flooring in the office area, said Starting Points Director Audrey Morris. Caperton Works donated three tables and chair sets for the Mealtime Community Kitchen dining/social room and several hutches for the office areas.

The Starting Points administrative section features the Family Center room, several staff offices, AmeriCorps staff office areas, a small kitchen, a storage room and a baby pantry with new stackable storage totes that were donated by BB&T.

There is also a media room with computers available for job searches, resume writing and use by agency volunteers.

Morris was excited about their increased space at their new location. She said they almost tripled their seating capacity from their former kitchen. They have Wi-Fi access and can also hold trainings and conferences now in their dining/social area.

The Starting Points phone number remains the same—304-258-5600.
