Official election results
There were no surprises when the official Morgan County vote totals from the General Election on November 6 was certified by the Morgan County Commissioners last Friday.
Some 7,195 county residents – or just under 61% of those registered – voted locally.
Here are the official county totals, with the winners’ names in bold. The winners for state and national offices were not always the same as the local winners.
Official results
U.S. President: Mitt Romney (Republican), 4,513 (64%); Barack Obama (Democrat), 2,363 (33%); Gary Johnson (Libertarian), 60 (1%); Jill Stein (Mountain), 60 (1%); Randall Terry (Independent), 48 (1%). Statewide, the breakdown was about the same. Nationwide, Obama won 51% of the popular vote as well as the electoral vote.
U.S. Senator: Joe Manchin (D), 3,417 (51%); John Raese (R), 3,071 (46%); Bob Henry Baber (Mountain), 210 (3%). Statewide, Manchin got 60% of the vote, with 37% for Raese.
U.S. House of Representatives (2nd District): Shelley Moore Capito (R), 4,645 (71%); Howard Swint (D), 1,899 (29%). Across the district, Capito got 70% overall.
Governor: Bill Maloney (R), 3,439 (50%); Earl Ray Tomblin (D), 3,075 (45%); Jesse Johnson (Mountain), 302 (3%); David Moran (Libertarian), 139 (2%). Statewide, Tomblin got 50% to 46% for Maloney, 3% for Johnson and 1% for Moran.
Secretary of State: Brian Savilla (R), 3,397 (54%); Natalie Tennant (D), 2,863 (46%). Statewide, Tennant got 62% of the vote.
State Auditor: Larry Faircloth (R), 4,357 (69%); Glen Gainer (D), 1,988 (31%). Gainer won with 57% statewide.
State Treasurer: Mike Hall (R), 3,502 (55%); John Perdue (D), 2,816 (45%). Statewide, Perdue won with 55%.
Agriculture Commissioner: Kent Leonardt (R), 3,545 (56%); Walt Helmick (D), 2,780 (44%). Helmick won with 52% statewide.
State Attorney General: Patrick Morrisey (R), 4,051 (62%); Darrell McGraw (D), 2,470 (38%). Morrisey won 51% to 49% throughout the state.
State Supreme Court Justice (two winners): John Yoder (R), 4,154; Allen Loughry (R), 3,166; Robin Jean Davis (D), 1,933; Letitia Chafin (D), 1,475. Statewide, the winners were Davis and Loughry. All four candidates were within 40,000 votes or 5% of each other.
State Senator (15th District): Craig Blair (R), 4,876 (87%); Daniel Litten (Constitution), 746 (13%).
House of Delegates (58th District): Daryl Cowles (R), 3,616; no opponent.
House of Delegates (59th District): Larry Kump (R), 1,965; no opponent.
Family Court Judge (23rd Circuit): Glen Stotler (R), 5,618; no opponent.
Morgan County Commission: Bob Ford (R), 3,462 (51%); Brenda Hutchinson (D), 3,331 (49%).
Prosecuting Attorney: Debra McLaughlin (R), 5,369; no opponent.
Sheriff: Vince Shambaugh (R), 4,174 (60%); Larry Bradley (D), 2,817 (40%).
Assessor: Ronald McIntire (R), 4,022 (59%); John Allen Swaim (D), 2,826 (41%).
Magistrate (two winners): Kermit Ambrose (R), 3,768; Greg Miller (R), 3,658; Debra Ditto (D), 3,149.
Constitutional Amendment to allow sheriffs more than two straight terms: Yes, 3,137 (50.1%); No, 3,124 (49.9%). The amendment lost 52-48% statewide.
