Harpers Ferry bird walk
The Potomac Valley Audubon Society will sponsor a bird walk in the South Schoolhouse Ridge Battlefield section of the Harpers Ferry National Park on Wednesday, November 14.
The walk will begin at 8 a.m. and last two to three hours.
It will be free and anyone with an interest is welcome to go along, regardless of their birding skills. Children will be welcome.
No pre-registration is needed.
Participants will meet at the South Schoolhouse Ridge parking area. From Route 340 west of Harpers Ferry, turn south onto Millville Road (County Route 27) at the outdoor flea market; proceed two miles to parking area. If the gate is closed, pull off and park along the road.
The trip will involve about three miles of walking through woods and fields, with some hilly terrain.
Birds expected to be seen include various varieties of sparrows, yellow-rumped warblers, kinglets, woodpeckers and raptors.
Participants should wear sturdy footwear, dress appropriately for prevailing weather conditions, and take along water and bug spray.
Binoculars will be available for anyone who needs them.
The trip will cancelled in the event of bad weather.
