Frankfort hammers Indians, 64-14

Coming off last week’s heart breaking loss to Petersburg, the Berkeley Springs Indians welcomed the undefeated Frankfort Falcons to town this past Friday night.
The Falcons came out with a chip on their shoulder after dropping a 7-6 decision to the Indians last season and showed the Indians no mercy at all.
The Tribe took the opening kick and picked up a quick first down on a nine yard completion to Matt Johnson from quarterback Mark Cowles. A Brady Tritapoe one yard gain gave Berkeley Springs a first down. The Falcons defense stiffened up and forced an Indian punt.
With a no huddle offense that struck quickly, Frankfort drove 49 yards for their first score.
On Berkeley Springs’ next possession, Cowles’ pass was picked off and Frankfort struck again with a 25 yard touchdown pass, the two point conversion put the Falcons up 15-0.
The Indians then had another three and out and after a Zach Wise punt, Frankfort’s Brady Watson scored on a 47 yard run, the extra point made the score 22-0.
On the ensuing Falcon kickoff, Berkeley Springs’ return man Caleb Athey took the kickoff at the nine yard line cut back to his left and picked up a great downfield block from a hustling Preston Hovermale to score a 91 yard kickoff return for a touchdown. Zach Wise’s extra point made the score 22-7. The speedy Athey finished with 158 return yards on kickoffs.
From there the Falcons’ offense took off and tacked on 28 more points to make the score 50-7 at the half. In the fourth quarter, Frankfort scored two more times to put the score at 64-7.
Berkeley Springs then drove 76 yards on their final possession which seen freshman running back Brady Tritapoe carry the ball six times for 67 yards and a touchdown, his first as a Varsity Indian. Wise’s extra point finalized the score at 64-14.
The Tribe will host Southern Garrett, Md. this Friday night at 7:30 p.m. at Morgan Field. This will be Homecoming 2012 for Berkeley Springs, who will look to get its first win of the season.
