Lady Indians earn top seed in soccer sectional; Reedy scores four goals



Berkeley Springs defeated Frankfort 5-4 on Wednesday, October 10, at Frankfort to earn the number one seed in their section. The victory insured the Indians, who ended the year 5-0-2 against sectional foes, home field advantage throughout sectional play.

BCS standings

The first edition of the Bowl Championship Series standings have been released. The BCS standings are used to determine the two teams which play in the national championship game. The top two teams in the final BCS standings in December will play for the national championship.

Berkeley Springs squashes Yellow Jackets

The Berkeley Springs High School football team remained undefeated on the year, with a 41-14 pasting of visiting Moorefield on Friday, October 5 at Morgan Field.

The strong Indian running attack and a swarming defense were too much for the Yellow Jackets, who came into the game with a record of 3-2.

Indians sweep home Cross Country meet

Lenny Roach and Rachel Buser each won individual titles while leading their respective teams to victory in a cross country meet held at Warm Springs Middle School on Tuesday, October 2.

The boys team easily beat Paw Paw, 16 to 45, while the girls won uncontested. Even if the other teams would have had full squads it is unlikely they would have had any chance of beating the Indians, since the Tribe finished one, two, three, five.

If you are a West Virginia University football fan, the two weekends of football following the Mountaineers' loss to South Florida have been bittersweet.

Boys soccer team beats Hampshire County, 7-2

On Thursday, October 4, the Berkeley Springs boys soccer team defeated Keyser 7-2 at Morgan Field in Berkeley Springs.

The Indians dominated the action, outshooting their Mineral County rival 27-5, on their way to the comfortable victory. Leading 3-1 at the half, Berkeley Springs added four more goals in the second half for the final margin of victory.

Berkeley Springs volleyball team wins twice

The Berkeley Springs High School Volleyball team tasted victory twice last week, beating Hancock on Monday, October 1 and East Hardy on Wednesday, October 3.

It was just what the doctor ordered after the Indians' recent struggles, although their losses were to some of the best teams in the tri-state area, including the top rated team in West Virginia, Class AAA, Hedgesville.

Painting and lining football field is a real team effort

Bryan Heironimus, a 1988 graduate of Berkeley Springs High School and employee at Dawson's Ace Hardware, thought he had an idea to make BSHS football more colorful. He approached David Omps, manager and owner of Dawson's, with his idea and Omps readily agreed.

Heironimus enlisted the help of his friend Greg Stotler and together, with eight five-gallon cans each of blue and yellow paint and paint sprayers from Dawson's rental shop, painted the end zones of the BSHS football field.
