School board honors athletes, gets update on Paw Paw School



School officials began their January 8 board meeting by recognizing eight Headstart employees for reviving a school volunteer in June 2007.

School policy would let employees donate paid leave to co-workers



Driven by a requirement of the West Virginia Legislature, the Morgan County school board has drafted a personnel policy that would let school workers donate their personal leave to co-workers who are sick or need to care for family.

Greenwood students write to Iraq



Greenwood fifth grader Dylan Schneider got a little worried when he heard his Aunt Olga Ziegler talking about his cousin Chris Wallace heading off to a tour of duty in Iraq.

State

The West Virginia Department of Education has proposed new rules to lower the sugar and fat content of breakfast, lunch and snacks sold to public school children.

The state agency is seeking the public's comments before December 17 on the updated rules, which would bring West Virginia in line with federal Child Nutrition requirements adopted in 2004.

School board gets lesson about science and reading programs



Students in the Health Sciences and Technology Academy at Berkeley Springs High School opened the November 6 meeting of the Morgan County school board with a presentation about their quest to earn college scholarships.

Pro wrestling fundraiser for BSHS Athletics

There will be a special pro westling fundraiser event for Berkeley Springs High School Athletics on Sunday, November 11.

Performing on the show will be the former WWE, ECW, and TNA Superstar known as Spike Dudley and Brother Runt: "Matt Hyson" will be in a special hardcore match against "Blood." Hyson was released from TNA, Total Nonstop Action Wrestling, a few months ago, where he appeared on TNA Impact every Thursday Night on Spike TV. He also worked for Vince McMahon and The WWE World Wrestling Entertainment, from 2001 to 2005. He also worked for the original ECW Extreme Championship Wrestling, run by Paul Heyman out of Philadelphia, Pa.

Dugan recipient of state and local JOUAM scholarships

Each year the Berkeley Springs Junior Order United American Mechanics Council #117 gives a scholarship to a local area deserving student. The student must meet the academic requirements as well as being a child or grandchild of a member of Council #117. This year's $500 scholarship recipient was Robert Dugan III, son of Robert Jr. and Stacy Dugan.

In addition to the local scholarship, the State Council of the Junior Order awards a $750 scholarship to one young student in the state each year. Council #117 announces that Robert Dugan III has also received the state scholarship award.

Board clarifies policy on sports donations and uniforms



School officials cleared up their policy on accepting donations for sports uniforms and activities at their October 16 meeting.
