Audubon Society offering Summer Camp Scholarships

The Potomac Valley Audubon Society is now accepting applications for its 2009 summer youth camp scholarship program.

Each year, the program helps send deserving area youngsters to summer camps that emphasize conservation and the environment.

Science Fair participants honored

Tony's Pizza and Food Lion helped sponsor a luncheon in honor of the high school science fair participants at Berkeley Springs High School on February 5.

Students participating in the 2009 Science Fair could attend the celebration.

Aging septic at Pleasant View School gets attention

Morgan County Schools' Maintenance Supervisor Alston Yost briefed school board members on recent efforts to fix a failing septic system at Pleasant View Elementary School in eastern Morgan County.

At the February 3 board meeting, Yost said the 30-year-old system has backed up on several occasions in the last few months, and was requiring more and more frequent septic pumping.

Ashley Stotler will travel to China as student ambassador

Berkeley Springs High School student Ashley Stotler will travel to China this summer as a student ambassador for the People to People program.

Stotler, an eleventh grader, was nominated for the program by an unknown teacher. She was notified by letter in October that she had been chosen for the honor.

Paw Paw January students

Students chosen for Paw Paw School January Students of the Month are:

Gwen Kesner is in kindergarten and is the daughter of Emma and Richard Kesner. She likes counting, reading the morning message board, drawing and playing outside.

Snow days pile up in school calendar

Stubborn winter weather two weeks ago pushed Morgan County's school calendar off track, driving the number of snow days past the four already built in to the academic schedule.

So far this year, local schools have closed six days (seven in Paw Paw) because of bad weather or hazardous road conditions.

Caperton heading up youth partnership

The Morgan County Partnership would like to introduce Susan Caperton as the new Project Director of the partnership's staff. She is a retired lawyer and has spent the past 10 years active in community work and raising her three daughters with her husband Gat Caperton.

Middle school students selected for November

Warm Springs Middle School announces its students of the month for November.

The sixth graders chosen this month are Victoria Crone, Brittany Fairbrother and Brittany Via.
