Man arrested for arson threat

A Berkeley Springs man was arrested in Hancock on Wednesday, May 30, for threatening to burn the dwelling and two vehicles of a Hancock woman.

Vernon Goyne, 55, of Raccoon Lane, Berkeley Springs, was taken into custody shortly before 10:30 p.m. at the Hancock Sheetz store parking lot by Chief T.J. Buskirk and Officer Daniel Seaman from the Hancock Police, as well as officers from the Maryland State Police, the Washington County Narcotics Task Force and the State Fire Marshal's office.

Jeremy Davis, 19, of Sand Mine Road, Berkeley Springs, was ordered to pay $50 court costs and was placed on six months probation for possession of a small quantity of marijuana.

Daniel M. James started work as the new Morgan County Assistant Prosecutor on Monday, May 7.

Born and raised in Cumberland, Md., James attended Fort Hill High School and completed his undergraduate work at Frostburg State University. He received his law degree from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan.

Berkeley Springs man arrested three times in three weeks

Morgan County Sheriff's Deputies arrested a local man three times within a three-week span.

The Morgan County Sheriff's Department has been very busy the last week or two. Cases have included two malicious woundings, a bomb hoax at the middle school, school drug complaints and a school bus accident.

Student expelled for drugs

Another Berkeley Springs High School student has been expelled for drug possession on school property. The 16-year-old male 10th grader was expelled for 45 days after a disciplinary hearing at the May 1 meeting of the Morgan County School Board.

To be readmitted to school, the student will have to prove he stays drug-free for a year and has to attend regular counseling sessions.
