Local man critically injured in collision

Ross Twigg, 24, of Great Cacapon was flown to Inova Fairfax Hospital last Monday, October 15, after his Dodge Ram collided with a Plymouth Voyager on the 6800 block of Milo School Road, west of Great Cacapon.

Twigg remained in the hospital as of Monday afternoon, but no information was available about his condition. He was listed in very critical condition shortly after he was transported.

Recent sentences by Magistrate Greg Miller:

Dale Lee MacDowall, 43, of Foreman Lane, Winchester, was sentenced to 30 days in jail and ordered to pay $186 court costs for domestic battery. The jail term was suspended and he was placed on a year's probation, during which he must attend counseling.

Local man injured in head-on collision

Ricky Waugh, 48, of Highland Ridge Road, Berkeley Springs was injured October 10 in a head-on collision on Spohrs Road. The accident occurred at 12:56 p.m. two-tenths of a mile south of the intersection with New Hope Road.

According to police, a 17 year old male juvenile from eastern Morgan County, with a Hedgesville address, was driving a 2005 Pontiac Sunfire when he ran into a ditch. While attempting to get back onto his side of the road, he collided with Waugh, driving in a 95 Toyota Corolla.

State Police find boy, 3, playing along U.S. 522

A three-year-old toddler was spotted by State Police Sgt. C. A. Mahood playing alone in the Warm Springs Restaurant parking lot, apparently getting ready to cross heavily traveled U.S. 522.

"I stopped the car, turned on the lights and stopped traffic. Then I put the boy in the police car," Mahood said.

Charges pending for vandalism

Two Berkeley Springs High School students and two others will face charges of felony destruction of property, breaking and entering and trespassing in a September 8 vandalism incident at the high school football field.

As of Tuesday, police had not released the names of the non-student adults involved in the incident.

Cruiser involved in traffic accident

No charges have been pressed against a Town of Bath police officer as a result of an accident at the intersection of Washington and Fairfax streets at 4:25 p.m. on Monday afternoon, September 17.

Town Patrolman 1st Class Richard Haynes was driving north on South Washington Street when his 2004 Dodge Intrepid police cruiser struck a 2000 Buick Century driven by Eileen Clark, according to the report by State Police Corporal E. D. Widmeyer.
