Several plead to arson, theft and drug charges

Judge Gina Groh heard pleas and delivered sentences for a variety of offenses in Circuit Court last Monday, September 15.

Christopher Lesser, 24, of Silver Spring, Md. pled no contest to arson, a felony. The charges resulted from a March 2007 case of attempted murder by fire at a home in Largent. Lesser will be sentenced on October 9. Lesser was the second Maryland man charged in the incident.

Clyde C. Ethredge, 58, of Spielman Road, Berkeley Springs, was ordered to forfeit horses after pleading guilty to animal cruelty. He must also pay $723 in fines, court costs and transportation restitution.

Three plead in drug and fleeing cases

23rd Circuit Court Judge Gina Groh presided over open court on Monday, July 21. Judge Groh accepted pleas and handed down sentences in two drug cases and the case of a defendant fleeing from police.

Franklin D. Keener, Jr., 31, pled guilty on July 21 in Circuit Court to the felony of causing an injury while fleeing from a police officer.
