Judge revokes probations

During last week's Circuit Court proceedings, Judge Gina Groh revoked probation for several offenders and handed down sentences for breaking and entering, assault, DUI and other offenses.

Richard L. Fishel, Jr., 23, of Slanesville, pled guilty to breaking and entering and petit larceny stemming from the March 2008 theft of copper wire from Scrap Brothers in Paw Paw.

Police rule out foul play in fatal gunshot wound

Local police have determined that a Morgan County man's fatal gunshot wound to the head was self-inflicted, said Sheriff Vince Shambaugh.

Shambaugh said previous news reports of a man being shot in the head during an altercation on Friday, February 13, were incorrect.

Gary Lee Gorsuch, 19, of Great Cacapon was sentenced to a year in jail for petit larceny and possession of a small quantity of marijuana. Six months of the jail term were suspended and he will be placed on a year's probation. Gorsuch was also ordered to pay $379 court costs and fees.

Rachel Renee Pipes, 32, of Valley Road, Berkeley Springs, was given a suspended sentence of 10 days in jail for petit larceny. In lieu of the jail time, she must work 60 hours of community service in addition to paying $190 court costs.

Burglaries keep local police busy

Morgan County Sheriff Vince Shambaugh said his department has been dealing with a rash of burglaries in recent weeks, reflecting both a turning economy and some people's quest to support their drug habits.

Two of the burglary calls came in Sunday, January 18. A home on Congress Street was burgled, and a purse, medications and some jewelry were stolen from the residence.

Absentee landlord fined for renters



Kook Hi Yoon of Alexandria, Va., was fined $100 by Judge Daniel Staggers for "nuisance on private property" Wednesday, January 21 in Bath Town Court. Yoon appeared in court and was fined after pleading guilty to a citation issued by Officer Tony Link.
