Chamber of Commerce meeting/picnic supper

The next meeting of the Berkeley Springs-Morgan County Chamber of Commerce on Wednesday, August 15, at 6:30 p.m. is the annual meeting/picnic supper hosted by the Morgan County Farm Bureau. This year, Paul Mock of Mock's Greenhouse and Landscaping will welcome Chamber members, introducing them to his hydroponic gardening operation. Supper is a feast of fresh local produce grown and prepared by members of the Farm Bureau.

The evening's business agenda will include updates on Chamber projects: Morgan County map, new teacher welcome breakfast, shop and restaurant brochures, newcomer packets and 34th annual Apple Butter Festival.

Johnson-Greene Family Quartet at Seventh-day Adventist Church

The Johnson-Greene Family Quartet of Woodbine and Keymar, Md., will present their 10th annual recital at the Berkeley Springs Seventh-day Adventist Church, 3606 Valley Rd., this Saturday afternoon, August 11, at 1:30 p.m., according to Pastor Hal Butman.

The public is welcome. There is no admission charge.

Snyder

Revival services will be held at Snyder's Bible Chapel from Sunday, August 12, thru Friday, August 17. Joel Silver will be the speaker for the morning and evening services on Sunday and Brian Bowerman will be the speaker for the weekly evening services. Services will be held at 7 p.m. each evening.

There will be fellowship socials after the Monday, Wednesday and Friday services.

Gospel concert

An outdoor gospel concert will be August 18, 6 p.m. at Johnsontown Church of the Bretheren.

The Masters Four Quartet, Lemasters, Pa. and The Gibsons, Elkton, Va. will be there.

First annual Paw Paw Festival plans underway for September

Plans for the First Annual Paw Paw Festival are underway. The festival will take place the third weekend of September each year. The land adjacent the boat launch has been designated as the official festival grounds. Over the next year, the town hopes to make improvements to the property so that it will become a greater asset and can be utilized for many events by all.

This year's festival will take place September 13-16. Many activities are scheduled in the hopes of providing something for everyone. WV Amusements will be providing a carnival throughout the festival and craft vendors will be selling their wares as well as informational booths.

Rockabilly rocks park in Berkeley Springs

All those folks who love the music of the 1950s need to make tracks for Berkeley Springs State Park where the Bopcats of Richmond, Va. are playing on Saturday, August 4 at 5:30 p.m. The Morgan Arts Council's free summer concert series uses the Ice House as the rain location.

For more than 20 years, this rockabilly group has been performing the music of Elvis, Chuck Berry and even a few originals up and down the east coast billing themselves as a trio of guys trying to have a little fun.

Paw Paw Festival beauty pageant

The first annual Paw Paw Festival will be held September 13 through 16 and the Miss Paw Paw Festival Beauty Pageant will be held on September 14.

The newly crowned Miss Paw Paw will reign over the festival and participate in the sponsor awards ceremony on Saturday.

Heart attack risk program offered at War Memorial

Area residents wanting to learn their risk of heart disease can participate in a health screening through War Memorial Hospital and Winchester Medical Center.

War Memorial Hospital and Winchester Medical Center will offer the Heart Attack Risk Screening on Wednesday, August 29 from 8-11 a.m. in the conference room at War Memorial Hospital.

National Night Out Against Crime

Hancock's eighth annual National Night Out Against Crime will take place in Widmeyer Park on Tuesday, August 7 from 6 p.m.-9 p.m. The rain date for this event is August 9. "National Night Out" began as a yearly event sponsored by local police and safety departments to promote community spirit and provide information on public safety and support services. For the past seven years, the Hancock Police Department, town leaders, churches and local public and private agencies, including the Interfaith Service Coalition, have organized and hosted this event.

This year, "National Night Out" will provide entertainment, free food, and plenty of activities for all ages. The event kicks off at 6 p.m. with a welcome by Hancock Mayor, Dr. Dan Murphy.

Alternative delivery hunter education courses offered

The Law Enforcement Section of the Division of Natural Resources announces that beginning August 1, Alternative Delivery Hunter Education Courses will be offered to any person eligible to take the "traditional" course to earn a permanent Hunter Education Card.

Those interested must first register at one of the six Law Enforcement District Offices listed on the DNR Web site (www.wvdnr.gov) or the Hunting/Fishing regulation booklet.
