Doug and Darinda Sherbert will be singing and playing music in a special service Sunday, October 31, 7 p.m. at Mt. Olivet United Methodist Church, Route 13, Winchester Grade Road, Berkeley Springs.

Peoples Assembly of God Church special service

Students from the Free Gospel Bible Institute will be ministering at the Peoples Assembly of God Church on Sunday, October 28.

They will be ministering in the Sunday School, the Morning Worship and the Sunday evening services. Free Gospel Bible Institute is located in Export, Pa. It is a three year Bible school training young people for Pentecostal ministry. Service times are 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and 7 p.m.

Singers at Love Assembly

Country Singer "Eddie Lee and Anointing," from Virginia will be singing at the Love Assembly of God Church, Berkeley Springs, Sunday, October 21 at 10:30 a.m.

Artists open studio doors

Artists from in and around the Berkeley Springs, Morgan County, area will open their studio doors to the visiting public from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, October 20 and Sunday, October 21, for a free, self-guided tour. Tour guides are available by calling Frog Valley Artisans at 304-258-3541or Travel Berkeley Springs at 1-800-447-8797.

The Berkeley Springs area is known for its active artist community and high quality work. It has earned the unique distinction of being considered one of America's Top 100 Small Arts Town for 13 years now and has been named by American Style as one of the top 25 small town arts destinations for the past four years.

A night of readings

The Bolivar-Harpers Ferry Public Library will host A Night of Readings, on Friday, October 19, at 7 p.m., a program honoring eleven Eastern-Panhandle authors who recently won recognition at the 2007 West Virginia Writers, Inc., Competition, the largest writing contest in the state of West Virginia. The site of the program will be the Bolivar-Harpers Ferry Public Library, located at 151 Polk Street in Bolivar (behind the Harpers Ferry Middle School).

The emcee for the evening will be Ethan Fischer, adjunct professor of English at Shepherd University, senior editor of the Antietam Review, and author of a new book of poetry entitled Beached in the Hourglass.

NARFE meeting

Morgan County Chapter 2263 of NARFE, National Active and Retired Federal Employees will meet Tuesday, October 16 at Cacapon Lodge. Lunch will be served at noon, dutch treat.

The speakers will be Bill Lands and Mike Sisenstein, Mike the Computer Guy.

Audubon sponsoring trips to watch owl banding

The Potomac Valley Audubon Society is sponsoring two nighttime field trips this fall to watch an expert catch, band and release migrating owls on South Mountain, in Washington County.

The trips will be held on Saturday, October 27 and Saturday, November 3. They will start at about 8:30 p.m. and last until about 10:30 p.m.

Blessing of the Animals at St. Mark's

St. Mark's Episcopal Church will hold a special worship service on Sunday, October 21 at 2 p.m. Parishioners and other people will gather to recognize and give thanks for creatures that bless lives–pets and other animals. Many who attend will take their animal friends, and gather on the lawn between the church building and the parish house which are located on South Washington Street at the interection of Rt. 9.

The short service of prayers and scripture readings is associated with remembering St. Francis of Assisi, whose feast day is October 4. St. Francis was known for celebrating how God blessed humanity through creation and God's creatures. During the service, Fr. Patrick Pierce, Priest-in-Charge at St. Mark's, will say prayers of thanksgiving and ask God's blessings on each animal and its presenting human friend.

Rescue squad gets new heart monitors

The Morgan County Rescue Service recently purchased two replacement cardiac monitors to meet new mandatory state guidelines for emergency transport vehicles. The heart monitors cost about $20,000 each.

The new equipment will be installed in the ambulances this week once the protective covers are in.

Morningside to hold annual holiday bazaar

At the September monthly meeting at First United Methodist Church, Morningside members were urged to collect and price the items for their upcoming Holiday Bazaar to be held at Francis Asbury Methodist Church on October 26 and 27. There also will be raffle tickets available for four drawings.

The meditation was given by Ann Ladd and September birthdays were recognized for Barbara Carr, Marlene Hannon and Barbara Spitzer.
