A CD release party for Matt Hahn's new album, The Real McCoy, will be held at The Troubadour this Saturday night, January 19. Music begins at 8 p.m.

The party to celebrate Hahn's recorded tribute to Jim McCoy was originally scheduled last month, but was postponed due to an ice storm.

Habitat for Humanity meets January 22

The next meeting in Morgan County of Habitat for Humanity of the Eastern Panhandle (HFHEP) will be held January 22, 7 p.m., at Union Chapel United Methodist Church, 10123 Valley Road, Berkeley Springs, about 1/2 mile south of Cacapon State Park on Route 522 south.

HFHEP has recently been involved with a purchase/donation of property in Morgan County. Recognition of other donations to HFH in Morgan County will occur at the meeting.

Wildlife rescue expert at Cacapon Park Jan. 19

The Potomac Valley Audubon Society will sponsor a talk by wildlife rescue expert Gretl Learned at Cacapon State Park the afternoon of Saturday, January 19.

The program will be held in the lower level Conference Room of the park's Lodge starting at 2 p.m.

CPR & First Aid course

Morgan County War Memorial Hospital will offer the American Heart Association's Heartsaver First Aid with CPR and AED training course. This course is designed for laypersons, especially those in a workplace setting.

The class is scheduled for Tuesday, January 29, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at War Memorial Hospital. A fee is charged for the course.

State police testing dates

In February, the West Virginia State Police will begin testing for the 59th Cadet Class. Recruiting posters and employment brochures can be found at every State Police Detachment in the state and at institutions of higher learning. The employment brochure, application and other information regarding the testing process can also be found on the State Police website.

West Virginia State Police has established several dates for testing in February. Phase I of the testing process, consisting of a physical ability and written examination, will take place at that time. The testing dates are:

Alpine Station Civil War Roundtable meets on Thursday, January 24

The Alpine Station Civil War Roundtable will meet on Thursday, January 24 at 7 p.m. at the Hancock Museum at Town Hall on High Street.

Berkeley Springs writer Sally Brinkmann will read from her first novel Between River and Mountain, which is set in the local area during the Civil War.

Choirs to begin rehearsals for spring concert season

The Community Choir, Inc. has announced that spring season rehearsals for the Sleepy Creek Children's Choir, a children and youth chorale under the direction of Denise Cline, and the Living Springs Chorale, a mixed voice ensemble under the direction of Lydia Walker, will begin this month.

Pro Wrestling fundraiser event for BSHS Athletics

There will be a Special Pro Wrestling Fundraiser Event for Berkeley Springs High School Athletics on Sunday, January 20 at Berkeley Springs High School Gym.

Performing on the card in a special attraction match will be Berkeley Springs own Magistrate Greg Miller. Miller is being trained to be a professional wrestler and he will make his in-ring debut at this event against ring veteran Nicolas Tide. Miller is being trained by local professional wrestler SGT Cody McGraw who is also from Morgan County.
