Local Lions Club eye screening for children

The Berkeley Spring Lions Club will have their Photo Screener at the Morgan County Fair on August 2 from 10 a.m. till 6 p.m. located in the main building of the High School.

This is for children three through five years. This is important to parents and their children, as the photo screener is able to spot eye problems and parents are able to correct them before the child is six years of age.

Hospice open house

Hospice of the Panhandle will have a grand opening of the new Morgan County Hospice location at 141 Business Park Circle on 522 South, across from the ball fields.

The open house will be held Thursday, July 17 from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Berkeley Springs Carnival free nightly entertainment

The officials of the Berkeley Springs Volunteer Fire Company carnival announce this year's musical entertainment lineup for the week of Monday, July 14 through Saturday, July 19. This year's entertainment feature's some of the best recording artists in independent music. All six free nights musical entertainment are free to the public.

Friday the carnival stage will once again offer area amateur crooners a chance to compete at the firemen's popular Karaoke talent competition open to the first 30 registered that evening. Cacapon State Park events

Wednesday, July 2

10 a.m. Ridge Trail: Go to the Nature Center to begin this 1 1/2 mile hike that provides views of Cacapon Mountain. It follows along the Warm Springs Ridge showing the Oriskany Sandstone boulders.

Summer concerts

The Morgan Arts Council (MAC) launches the 22nd season for Summer Concerts in the Park with a line-up that includes a wide range of musical styles from all over the east coast and as far away as Chicago. The series begins with a series favorite, the popular Mama Jama, and concludes at the end of August with a jazz and funk group from Richmond.

In between, we have something for every taste including an authentic Chicago blues band, a Jamaican reggae group and a ska group from Boston, says Mary Hott, MAC's executive director. A big draw for regional audiences will be the reunion of Hickory Wind, an acoustic bluegrass group that originated at Coolfont in Berkeley Springs during the late 1970s.

July 4 is hot dog day

On July 4 – a single day – Americans will devour 150 million hot dogs. That's enough to stretch from Wasington, D.C. to Los Angeles five times over. By the end of the summer grilling season, an estimated seven billion hot dogs will be consumed.
